CAMBODIA: Clear Vision for Children

CAMBODIA: Clear Vision for Children

Mission

To provide eye services to all students in Government Middle and High Schools in Cambodia.

Working closely with representatives of the Government of Cambodia and EssilorLuxottica, Caris Foundation International has developed an innovative vision screening process for young people aged between 12 -18. Our local teams test the vision of all children and teachers in the school using specially adapted Visual Acuity charts. Sight tests are conducted within the classrooms, to prevent disrupting lessons. Students are prescribed and fitted with glasses on the same day by our team. The ‘Ready2Clip’ frames and lenses allow us to screen and treat over 1000 students in one day.

A range of frames are offered and children are able to choose different colors and styles. All screening, testing and dispensing of glasses are provided on the same day, at the school and at no cost to the students. Teachers at each school are also screened and those who require reading glasses and Sunglasses are provided with them. Our target is to serve the 980,000 children who are enrolled in middle and high schools nationally within the next 2 years.

The academic performance of children with uncorrected vision can suffer greatly. By correcting the sight of students during these critical school years we aim to support learning that will transform prospects for the future for teachers as well as young people throughout the whole country.
