At the CURE Children's Hospital in Mbale, Uganda, Caris is funding life-changing surgery for children afflicted with hydrocephaly. This condition, where fluid accumulates in the brain, is believed to be caused by infection occurring shortly after birth. Formerly, the disorder was treated with a plastic shunt. But on average, a child could have five or six shunts before they reached adulthood. At the CURE Children's Hospital, an alternative treatment involving minimally invasive surgery has revolutionized care, not only for children of Africa, but around the world. Caris is funding this surgery for 90 children in Uganda.
