To supply their schools with water, students at Kangubiri Girls High School, Mwaani Girls High School, and Machokos Girls High School had to carry it in "jerry cans" every afternoon. Some had to travel as much as five miles each way and their water sources were impure rivers. Then the Caris Foundation funded the drilling of high capacity water wells for each school through Living Water International of Houston, Texas. Now the students are healthier and can spend their afternoons in school learning. The extra water that is produced can be used for growing crops or provided to the surrounding communities.
